Who benefits from a Motor Vehicle Records search?
MVR reports are highly beneficial whether the position a company is hiring for mandates their prospective employee to operate a vehicle in the workplace or not.
DOT-Regulated Positions: Under federal law, DOT-regulated companies must perform an MVR report and drug screening during a pre-employment process. Once a business of this type employs a candidate, they must continue screening the employee on an ongoing basis.
Non-DOT Driving Positions: Other driving positions, such as ambulance driver, delivery driver, bus driver, limo driver, and the like, do not require an MVR report as part of the hiring process. While it may not be necessary, it is in the company’s best interest to run an MVR report to understand their prospective employee’s driving records.
Non-DOT and Non-Driving Positions: Employers hiring for positions that do not require operating a vehicle should also process an MVR report during pre-employment screenings. Reviewing driving histories allows a company to assess candidates’ behavioral patterns and provides the most reliable source of personal identification we have.
